How do I determine taxiway fillet geometry?

Select the Taxiway Design Group (TDG) and the intersection turn angle, and AvPlot's Fillet Tool computes the fillet radius and taper geometry using the cockpit-over-centerline method, exporting a DXF. Geometry follows FAA AC 150/5300-13B Appendix J.

What is the fillet radius for a turn of 90 degrees or less?

Per the FAA standard the R-fillet value is 0 ft for turn angles of 90 degrees or less; a separate fillet radius applies only when the turn exceeds 90 degrees. The minimum centerline radius is fixed by the Taxiway Design Group.

What is the cockpit-over-centerline method?

It is a design approach where the fillet is sized so the aircraft main gear stays on pavement while the pilot tracks the cockpit over the taxiway centerline through the turn, per AC 150/5300-13B Appendix J.
